A large portion of the Kaziranga National Park has been inundated by flood waters and reports of one rhino having drowned in flood waters have emerged.

“Around 70 to 80 percent area of the Kaziranga National Park is submerged and animals are migrating to the highlands,” said P Shivkumar, Director of Kaziranga National Park.

The official also informed of recent death of animals inside the national park. “One Rhino drowned day before yesterday and 3 Hog Deer were killed after getting hit by a vehicle early morning today in an accident,” said Shivkumar.

One more female Rhinoceros was reportedly found dead earlier this morning in Pabitora Wildlife Sanctuary’s Tuplung camp range due to flood.

Assam’s Brahmaputra level continues to rise due to heavy incessant rains, as floods wreak havoc across 23 districts in Assam as per the latest flood reports by ASDMA. 

So far, more than 9 lakh people have been affected by floods over the past 5 days in the state and the death toll this season has risen to 21.

Meanwhile, the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati has also been flowing above the danger mark.
