Rumours had been doing the rounds on social media and across the city over curfew beginning from 5 pm in Guwahati.

There was much confusion over the same after the Kamrup Chamber of Commerce had urged citizens to keep their shops open from 9 am to 5 pm.

The president of Kamrup Chamber of Commerce, MP Jain had earlier released a circular for traders, transporters and members, requesting them to limit business hours from 9 am to 5 pm till 30th June, in view of the spike in COVID cases in the city.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier on June 13, mentioned that the government was considering changing curfew timings from 9 pm to 7 am. However, the decision has not yet been made.

Further, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his meeting with chief ministers of states on June 17, ruled out the possibility of another lockdown and directed all state governments to find ways of opening further.

This brings to end all speculations about further lockdown directives within the country from the central government.

As such, the fact remains that the curfew timings for Guwahati city remains from 9 pm to 5 am.
