The locals and the police on March 5 busted a diesel smuggling racket from Hedayetpur area in Guwahati. The police have apprehended two people in reference to the case.
According to reports, the miscreants wont to steal the fuel from the train and smuggled it across Assam.
Although the kingpin of the racket, ‘Kalia’ is absconding, the apprehended persons said that that they had a whole network of distributing the stolen diesel and used to sell it for Rs. 30 per litre.
Locals alleged that this is often a repeat offence done by these people and that they had previously tried to prevent it but all in vain.
One of the apprehended lady said, “Whenever RPF officials see us they send us to jail but we again come back and do this business.”
“We earn around Rs. 400 from this business.” she added.
The police have registered a case and investigation is ongoing.
